Kenley had her doctor appointment on tuesday last week. By that time, she had had her cold for 2 1/2 weeks. The doctor was concerned about her not gaining weight and with the cough and conjestion, she decided to admit her to the hospital.
Unfortunately, at the same time, we were having tons of snow dumping down and it was pretty much a white-out. We totalled 24 inches.
My sister Kaici had come with Kenley and I. We went straight to the hospital and Kaici had to stay the night. We wound up being in the hospital for 52 hours. The doctor didn't tell me till later that she was concerned about Kenley's coloring...she was a little blue.
Well, we did x-rays and tests galor! One of the tests were an upper GI scan. She had to drink barium while they took the x-ray to see if there were any blockages which would account for her spitting up. Fortunately, there were no blockages, but I did notice that she didn't spit up any of the barium. I told the doctor, and she decided to put rice cereal in her formula to thicken it and see if it would work. It did! She is gaining about an ounce a day, which is what the doctor wanted!
I am still pumping my milk, but the doctor has her on nutremigin (sp?) formula for the next 2 weeks, and then we will see if I can go back to breast feeding. Unfortunately, I don't produce enough milk, so she'll have to have some formula. I'll have to thinken the breast milk it before I give it to her, which is okay, but a hastle. It's hard to pump in the night on top of the feedings, so we'll see what comes of this!
While in the hospital, they gave her breathing treatments, but they didn't work. We came home and had 2 horrible nights of her not sleeping because of not being able to breathe. We went to the doctor on saturday and now she has an ear-infection! lol! She's on antibiotics (finally) after her coughing for 22 days straight. Poor kid!
She is a new baby lately...she gives out smile for free if anyone wants them!
So, that is the lovely update.
Thank you Carrie for the advice, I'm hoping that we have things fixed and that they don't go on forever!

I am SO SORRY! We had to do the barium with Maddox. It was such a bad experience. He SCREAMED when I would put him down on the cold steel table. I really am sorry you are having to go through this. I promise it does get better. I forgot we also thickened Maddox's milk with cereal as well. Poor Kenley! Maddox also struggled with ear infections- I am sure it has something to do with all the stuff coming up all the time. I feel sad for her and you of course because I know it is emotionally and physically exhausting. Do you have someone who can come and hold her sometimes? I would not have made it without help. I remember the day I did the barium testing I was there with him for 6 hours- I cried and cried because I was exhausted and hated to see him go through what they were putting him through. I wish I was there. I would come hold her so you could take a shower and a nap!
Oh man! I'm sorry that maddox went through that...that is horrible!!! I hope you new baby doesnt have to go through that...by the way, LOVE THE NAME!!!
